  1. IF you go back in time and find the DR800 big you will find out that the front end of the VSTROM its influence from that bike and not the BMW

  2. i had a 03 vstrom, best engine i ever had. the TQ won me over.

both are to heavy. losing 50 or 60 pounds would make me get another dl1000. (shoulda never got rid of the one i had)

  3. Very good and complete comparison, dude. I would like to mention another advantage the V1000 has over Versys: the gear indicator. It’s frustrating that Versys, so much expensive, doesn’t have such device that equip even cheap bikes nowadays.

  4. Suzuki was the first to put a beak in the DR Big 750 in 1988. Present Vstroms continue that. So if we would want to talk about who copied whom, BMW most probably copied Suzuki rather than the other way round.

  5. depends if you want to go off road a bit and if you like your power more at midrange or a bit higher in the revs. Vstrom is clearly better in this class because this is a class that normally expects to get in the dirt now and then. If you don’t do any dirt, the are better street bikes than the versys for that.

  6. You should also mention about the radial mounted monoblock front brakes on Vee. Versys still uses 1980’s ZZR 1100 brakes

  7. I’ve read that the V-Strom 650 is the better buy over the 1000. Thoughts? Here in Ohio I can get a new 16 V-Strom Adventure for $6999 or Versys 1000 for $7899. If I can ever sell my Stratoliner.

  8. Versys is in a “sport touring” class.
V-Strom is in an “adventure touring” class.

    One is 100% road biased.
One is more like a 70% road, 30% unpaved bike.

Kawasaki has 180/55 R and 120/70 F tires. Most common 17″ sportbike tires in the world.
V-Strom has 150/70 R and 110/80 F tires. 17″ and 19″. This is the most common size available for street tires all the way to road-legal knobbies for the ADV class. You cannot get knobby tires for the Kawasaki in those sizes.
