2012 Kawasaki Ninja 650 – Lowside Motorcycle Crash

2012 Kawasaki Ninja 650 – Lowside Motorcycle Crash
2012 Kawasaki Ninja 650 lowside in Mont Tremblant, Québec

As I was riding on road 327 N in Mont Tremblant a very light rain started to fall. I took a couple of curves while being really careful but the grip was still pretty good. As I got into a roundabout, my rear wheel immediately lost traction and I fell. I was going about 50 km/h (31 mph) at this moment.

Speed is in km/h on the bike

  1. actually there was some swearing happening…! The mic on the gopro is pretty weak so we can’t really hear it! 😉

  2. I’m a beginner motorcyclist but I don’t understand what caused the bike to fall over. I’ve seen videos of people doing sharper turns than that on wet roads and the bike stayed upright. Did you use the brakes during the turn? What made the bike drop?

  3. As I answered to someone else: I’m not even sure yet what was the cause for the crash… My tires are pretty old (which might be part of the answer). I think I’m pretty steady on throttle in the curve and I don’t think I have used the brakes. My best hypothesis would be oil or something like that on the road. I have taken sharper turns right before that and the grip was pretty good.

  4. The oil hypothesis is plausible.. specially if the rain just started to pour. Desole pour ton bike. T’en as pour combien en dommage ?

  5. Being steady on the throttle and not leaning that much shouldn’t have crashed. Probably oil or some sort of very thin mud on the roundabout. Since the ground thinly wet, that’s very slippery as well.

  6. Shit man … Good you didnt hurt yourself 🙂  Could have been oil, or some other stuff which might have made the road slippery …. I changed tires on my 650, pretty short time after I bought it. Standard tiers on this model, are not particulier good (which also could come into play here)   😀

  7. Man I just did the exact thing on my 650, round about and all. It slid into the curb and bent a handle bar down into the fairing, destroyed the tail and the fork on the left side. 3k I’m damage, but thanks to gear i was no more than sore. As its getting fixed I’m wondering how long its going to take me to gain my confidence back in lateral traction. How have adjusted your riding and how long til you were back to near normal as far as comfort and confidence?

  8. Really nasty. Done something very similar on my VFR. You don’t have to be going too fast to really make a mess of your bike (and yourself). You were riding carefully and were unlucky. Was this rain after a longish spell of dry weather I wonder? The roads are always worse with rain after a dry spell. Hope you’re OK.

  9. I just slipped two weeks back on my 2012 ninja 650 and it was while taking a sharp turn down hill. I doubt it was my stock front tyres thats too hard and doesnt grip well. You could find my video on youtube ” jebel hafeet bike crash video”

  10. Listen UP NOOOBZ,,YOU LEAN IN THE RAIN YOU DIE IN THE RAIN, RIDING ON WET SURFACE IS A PRIVELAGE AND JUST TO COMMUTE DONT DISRESPECT THE ASPHALT GODS ANYMORE………THERE WAS NO NEED TO LEAN AT ALL IN THIS VIDEO

  11. Sign said 25. You were doing 50 into round about coming down from 70.
Thanks for reminding me not to be stupid in the wet.

  12. Loss of traction was instant. No throttle chopping to unstable the bike so I would say this was bad luck. I had two low sides like this (quicker with more lean) which I put down to sneaking up the gas during the turn (despite what Keith Code says). Now I maintain throttle through the turn until I start to come up and feel more stable at lean.

  13. fuck man…my 650 fell to the other side while i was parking….luckly i invest on RnG frame slider, saved my 650’s ass

  14. rain is no joke…I think in rain yiu ABSOLUTELY DO NO LEAN BIKE LIKE MUST SLOWDOWN ENOUGH TO MAKE TURN I GUESS…

  15. fucking retarded i could see wayyyy ahead of time exactly when u were gonna go when ur in the rain on a crotch rocket u gotta drive extra extra safe as u shouldnt be driving at all

  16. it’s because he was riding the middle line in the rain lots of oil there and when you add water to that and ride that line this is what happens
