The Ninja 1000 isn’t quite in a class of its own, but the only other open-class sportbikes currently sold that offer upright ergos and and some semblance of a fairing are the Honda VFR1200F or Yamaha FZ1. This trio is bookended by purebred sportbikes on one side and heavyweight sport-touring machines on the other. Kawi had one eye on the sport-touring market when it redesigned the Ninja, taking it back to basics with a lightweight approach: A new subframe and a tailsection are designed to cleanly accommodate the optional 29-liter saddlebags, which, when removed with quick-release hardware, leave a clutter-free appearance.

  1. What do you think of the new Ninja 1000?  I have ridden the older model and thought it was great bike.

  2. I’m so tired of hearing the negative comments about this bikes from bikers who know nothing about biking, I have a 2012 N1k and it is an awesome bike! I put 22k miles on it in one year. I have drag raced it in the 1/8 and road race it. It is a 6.5 bike @ 117mph in stock form. Hard for any super sport to get around it. On an road race circuit it handles well once you lower the front end 5mm from the triple clamps and put Michelins on it. Plus their is A LOT of hidden horsepower in this bike once you remove all the restrictions Kawasaki put on it. the bike is capable of producing around 180hp to crank. The only problems I have with it is in the clutch. I have tore the clutch up twice but the bike wasn’t design for the heavy racing I’m doing on it.

  3. This is why Kawasaki are selling so many bikes – they make a machine that looks great and is practical as well. This argument over who’s fastest is crap – nobody could use more than 30% of this bikes’ capacity without breaking the law. Nobody could ride this bike over 75% on the road. A beautiful thoroughbred machine

  4. Riding position = great, seat = a little hard, weather protection = reasonable but not great, engine = fantastic, cornering = stable and assured, overall = wonderful.  My review after two weeks of owning 🙂

  5. i like the way at 3:30 they switch bikes, one with a completely different exhaust pipe!
